Bike Trip 2000

28 May 2000

I had a wonderful time with Connie on Sunday morning as we both stayed in and talked until I forced myself to get back on the road. I had planned on leaving fairly early but it was pouring out when I woke up so I waited. It wasn't until midday that the weather cleared up and I was able to leave. Connie gave me a Wisconsin map since I didn't have one. My estimation was that I would have about 1 1/2 days of travel left. It was going to be tight because I had to be at work at UPS at 3:30am Tuesday morning and wanted a good night's sleep before then!

The temperature was in the upper 30s - low 40s. I really had no idea that I would need gloves when I had started this trip! Once I had to stop off at a gas station just to warm my hands under the bathroom hot-air hands-dryer! After little more than 3 hours, I arrived in Whitewater and called my parents (about 3:20) from the same park that I had spent the night at during my last bike trip... Brought back memories. I confessed to my mum that I missed my leather jacket which I had left in Springfield. (I don't have room for it and it is sunny and hot was my argument for leaving it!) It pretty much has been dry on this leg of the trip - maybe a light drizzle but not enough to get me wet really. My goal was to reach Watertown for the night. I was beginning to be a bit concerned as to whether I would be able to reach Sheboygan in time. I came up with a backup plan of calling Shooter to come pick me up it ir really looked like I would be late. I ran out of energy bars (and money) but Connie gave me some banana bread and I still had a jar of Planters peanuts...

At 10:20pm, I reached Mayville and decided to spend the night at a park there. I gave my parents a call and went to bed.
